About the collection

In addition to books, atlases, and maps, the Library of the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics collects globes, relief models, and a number of legacies. The collection of the Institute’s Library contains nearly 18,000 documents, and also stores the BSc and MSc theses as well as PhD dissertations prepared by our students. The Library includes the Book Library, the Map Collection and the Archive.

The Book Library collects Hungarian and foreign literature (books, monographs, encyclopaedias, handbooks, dissertations, lecture notes) in cartography, geodesy and geography as well as in other related disciplines.

The Map Collection includes maps, atlases, wall maps, and relief models.

The Archive was created by Krisztina Oláh, head of the Map Collection, in the autumn of 2023 from the old and rare materials of the Map Collection. The Archive preserves and exhibits old maps published before 1850, rare atlases, treasures of legacy materials and, in many cases, single copies of globes, celestial globes and relief models as well as views, old books, and the legacies of prominent representatives of our profession.

Although our collection is not a public library, it is available for educational and research purposes for lecturers, students and staff of research institutes. Opening hours: please inquire at one of the contact details below.
